Roland xv 5080 samplers
You should check out the user reviews at Harmony Central too. There may be some other reasons to consider a sampler, but for my purposes, I just don't see anything that would compel me to get a sampler over a synth -especially a synth that can load my samples too. Naturally you can sample with them, and do on board editing, but computers are advanced enough that I, personally, would rather do my editing there, and then load it into my sampler to play the sound. Samplers are great, but they usually don't store their sounds in ROM as the sample playback synths do. So you may want to give that some serious thought. Keep in mind that the Korg Karma is a very nice/unique synth, especially for electronica, and uses the same synth engine as the Triton. The 5080 does what I need it to, the way that I need it to be done. I too have been in the market for a synth module, and personally, I am saving up for the XV5080. But it does give you instant access to all of them, making it a VERY LARGE collection of sounds from one box. The down side is that the expansion card are over 300 bucks a pop, which is a lousy dollar to sound ratio. I think each one of them has about 8MB of sounds burned in, and may or may not consume polyphony from the main synth engine (not sure about that one). The Roland also can hold (I think) 4 or 6 of their expansion sound card. The Roland can store it's samples on Smart Media cards, which will decrease loading time (always a nice thing) and you may not need to drag along an external harddrive, or zipdrive. Some of the sounds may not play back quite as intended, so you'll need to edit them to get the desired result. 2)Just because the Roland can read different formats doesn't mean that it will ALWAYS be a perfect translation. Keep in mind two things when considering that however: 1)Just because one library is much larger, doesn't necessarily mean you can't find exactly what you want in the smaller one. I do not thing the Korg can do that, so the Roland will have a much larger library of sounds to draw from. However, I am pretty sure that the Roland memory can be expanded to 128MB, which I think is more than the Korg.Īlso the Roland can read the sample formats of all of the major player, particularly the Akai format. The Roland will do sample playback, but no sampling, or onboard editing is available. I believe the Korg is 16 part multi whereas the Roland has 32 parts. There are some other options available for it, but I don't know that they are relevant right now.
It also has a sampling option (maybe they are including it in the package now, I don't know), so you CAN use it to sample if you want. The korg probably has more of the 'sound' you're looking for, if you talking about electronica. Of course there is plenty of overlap.įrom my knowledge of these two synths, I think either one would provide satisfactory results. Roland tends to go more for an authentic type of sound (strings, piano, guitars) of real instruments. Korg has always had a solid rep for it's 'synthy' sounds. Well, both synths are slightly different beasts in terms of the style of sounds they offer. We are in the market for a new Sound Module, and we’re currently looking at the Korg Triton Rack and the Roland XV-5080.

Please feel free to move it to the appropriate place (as long as you tell me where that is ) Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this type of question. Does the sample playback options on both machines work fine with your systems? (We have heard that the Roland sample playback options are very frustrating) Should I even bother buying a new sound module, or should I just get a sampler and some CD’s?Īny input / key terms to research would be greatly appreciated in this important juncture.
#Roland xv 5080 samplers mod
So we are just wondering, what mod are you guys happy with? Which one has the best quality and collection of sounds? (both onboard and through expansion). We are also new to the whole “sampler” approach to composition, and would like to use these machines as a door into this new realm (not really for recording samples, but mainly for utilizing Sample CD playback).

We’re basically looking for a unit that has great sounds for anything from ambient and electronica to full scale orchestra (mainly film scores).
